/Academic Advising
When students are accepted in one of the 13 programs at Coppe, they join the program as “enrolled in the Master’s course” or “enrolled in the Doctorate course”. One of the professors of the program is nominated as the academic advisor of a student who has joined the program, helping him/her in all issues regarding their discipline choice and the organization of a study program
When students complete the credit hours required and are approved in the qualifying process (a Master’s seminar for Master’s students and a qualifying exam for Doctoral students), they start to prepare their thesis or dissertation and become “Master’s candidates” or “Doctoral candidates”. From this moment on, their work will be officially conducted by an advisor. The official advisor will not necessarily be the academic advisor of the first stage of the course.
