The Master's and Doctoral program in the interdisciplinary area of Environmental Engineering of COPPE offers a broad and up-to-date scientific perspective of the bases and methods of environmental management and the sustainable use of natural resources. With that objective, it provides interdisciplinary elements for the training of its students in order to enable them to integrate multidisciplinary work teams and to seek a transdisciplinary perspective to approaching emerging issues related to sustainable development promotion.
From the institutional point of view, the program has several lines of research with diverse approaches, reflecting the participating Departments, as shown in the following table. Because of that, the students can adjust the course in a specific line of interest with the most appropriate preference. The interaction with several Departments and Laboratories from Coppe facilitates the establishment of partnerships and relations with other units of the UFRJ acting in this field.

Profile of Candidates
All research lines are suitable for candidates with a bachelor's degree in exact sciences (engineering and related fields such as geology, oceanography, meteorology, etc.). The Environmental Planning and Environmental Production Management areas allow for a greater comprehensiveness in the basic training of the candidates, provided that they have experience of work or interest/competence in the planning area. The line of research in Coastal Environments is especially suited for environmental engineers, civil engineers with specialization in water resources, oceanographers and the professionals with similar formation. The line of research in Environmental Sanitation Technology in Water Resources is especially suited for chemical engineers, civil engineers with training in hydraulics and sanitation and similar fields.
