Coppe/UFRJ had 24 students contemplated by scholarships in the first window of the 2026 Grade 10 Master’s and Doctoral Program, of the Carlos Chagas Filho Foundation for Research Support of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Faperj). The results were announced on May 7th. In total, Coppe secured seven doctoral scholarships and 17 master’s scholarships.
The program aims to encourage the training of researchers in excellent stricto sensu graduate programs in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Scholarships are awarded for the last 12 months of a master’s degree and the last 24 months of a doctoral degree. Among the eligibility criteria, candidates must be affiliated with programs evaluated with scores of 5, 6, or 7 by the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES).
In this edition, FAPERJ awarded 420 scholarships: 236 for master’s degrees and 184 for doctoral degrees. UFRJ was the institution with the highest number of scholarships awarded in both modalities, with 89 master’s scholarships and 29 doctoral scholarships.
In the distribution by areas of knowledge, Exact and Earth Sciences — the area in which COPPE programs are included — received 29 master’s scholarships and 23 doctoral scholarships.
The Scientific Director of FAPERJ, Eliete Bouskela, highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative for strengthening science in the state. “Investing in the training of master’s and doctoral students is a direct investment in the scientific development and innovation of the state of Rio. These researchers will be fundamental in facing strategic challenges and contributing to the advancement of science in Rio de Janeiro,” she stated.
