On September 24, Coppe/UFRJ will host the fourth edition of the Gaming Club, an initiative that showcases games developed by the institution’s students and faculty and fosters discussions about the creation and development processes of these technologies. The event is part of Coppe’s Academic Week and will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Room 118 of Block I (Coppe-I).
In addition to games developed in Coppe’s laboratories and through its extension projects, the program includes products created in partnership with other UFRJ units and with Fiocruz. Participants will be able to try out the games and attend presentations on the development of some of them.
Among the games is “Screener,” developed by Ludes, Laboratory of Ludology, Engineering and Simulation of Coppe, in partnership with Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz. Focused on the process of developing new drugs, the game helps players understand the different stages required for a medication to reach the market, from laboratory testing to approval by agencies such as Anvisa.
The program also includes “Jogo dos Animais”, which develops attention, memory, and logical thinking while introducing nine endangered species of Brazilian wildlife. “ComuniDados”, on the other hand, focuses on community building, placing the player in the role of a community leader seeking to improve their region.
Another highlight is “Rolé Carioca,” a game about Rio de Janeiro’s cultural heritage, in which participants explore locations around the city, plan itineraries, and answer trivia questions.
The Coppe Gaming Club is organized by the institution’s Technology and Innovation Directorate, with support from InovaUFRJ and the Casulo, Ceped, and Desis laboratories of the Production Engineering Program (PEP), as well as Ludes of the Systems engineering and Computer Science Program (PESC). The initiative also benefits from the collaboration of the Eds Maker and LabEscola3D outreach projects.
