How can project management principles be transformed into tools applicable to the development of products and services? This is the focus of the seminar “Gerenciamento de projetos aplicado ao desenvolvimento de produtos e serviços: integrando a ISO 9001 ao mundo real” (Project management applied to the development of products and services: integrating ISO 9001 into the real world), hosted by the Quality Office at Coppe/UFRJ (Coppe-Q) on September 14 at 1:00 p.m.
The event is intended for Coppe faculty, researchers, students, technical staff, and managers who coordinate or participate in projects and quality management within their respective departments. Roberta Oliveira, coordinator of Coppe-Q, says that for laboratory teams, for example, the event is very useful, especially for those who deal with daily routines involving testing, calibration, quality maintenance, and ensuring that laboratory processes comply with ISO 9001 requirements.
“It’s also perfect for those working on specific projects, including those carried out in partnership with industry. The presentation will show project team members, researchers, and managers how to align the scope and deliverables with quality standards without stifling operations,” says Roberta.
The session will demonstrate, in a practical way, how the fundamentals of project management, as presented by the PMI/PMBOK, relate to Requirement 8.3 of NBR ISO 9001, which addresses the design and development of products and services. The goal is to bring together concepts that are often treated separately and show how they can be applied in day-to-day project work.
Among the topics covered are:
- differences between design and operation;
- life cycle and process groups;
- definition and specification of project inputs;
- review, verification, and validation;
- outputs and change management as specified in Requirement 8.3;
- the relationship between product and service development and risk-based thinking, as specified in clause 6.1 of ISO 9001.
The seminar will be led by Edilson Barros, a mechanical engineer, Ph.D. candidate in the Industrial Engineering Program at Coppe, and a professional with 20 years of experience in project management. He holds an MBA in Project Management, an MBA in Business Management from FGV, and PMP (Project Management Professional) certification from the Project Management Institute.
The event is open to the public and will take place at Coppe-I, Room 118, Block I, UFRJ Technology Center.
