Coppe/UFRJ and the Naval Institute of Postgraduate Studies (INPG) honored Carlos Eduardo Parente and Carlos Rodrigues Belchior, officers of the Brazilian Navy and professors of the Ocean Engineering Program, for more than three decades of contribution to the training of researchers and scientific advancement in the areas of underwater acoustics and naval engineering.
The ceremony reinforced the strategic partnership between Coppe and the Navy, which is fundamental for the development of technologies related to the sea and to defense as well as to energy transition and ocean energy in the country.
Coppe’s director, Suzana Kahn, highlighted that the honorees were pioneers in themes that guide priority research agendas today — such as biofuels, ocean energy and sustainability — and that the collaboration between Coppe and the Navy strengthens Brazil’s capacity to innovate in these areas. “I greatly congratulate you on the leadership you have shown in an extremely modern and future-oriented agenda,” praised Suzana.
According to the director of INPG, Admiral Marcio Rocha, the tribute symbolizes the recognition of professionals who have contributed in an exemplary way to military and academic training and to the rapprochement between the two institutions.
