Professors Segen Estefen and Milad Shadman, from the Ocean Engineering Program (PEnO), represented Coppe/UFRJ at the Executive Committee meeting of the International Energy Agency (IEA)’s Ocean Energy Systems (OES), held this week in Hangzhou, China.
Segen and Milad presented projects and activities developed by the Ocean Renewable Energy Group (GERO). Their participation reflects Coppe’s engagement and leadership in international discussions on the development of marine energy technologies.
The meeting brought together representatives from 21 countries to discuss the advances and challenges of ocean renewable energy—including waves, thermal gradients, tides and ocean currents—and the strategic role of these sources in the global energy transition.
The OES is an intergovernmental collaboration operating within a framework established by the International Energy Agency (IEA). It brings together countries to promote research, development and demonstration of conversion technologies designed to harness energy from all forms of renewable ocean resources for electricity generation, as well as for other uses such as desalination, through international cooperation and information exchange.
