The Embrapii-Coppe Unit was awarded the Outstanding Unit of the Year 2025 award by the Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Company (Embrapii), in recognition of its strategic role in strengthening national engineering and developing cutting-edge technologies for the oil and gas sector, an area in which Brazil is consolidating itself as a global reference.
The award was presented on December 9th, during a ceremony held in Brasília, which was part of the Embrapii Annual Conference, an event that brought together the 91 Embrapii Units from across the country.
Throughout 2025, the Embrapii-Coppe Unit presented significant results: it conducted 17 individual mentoring sessions within the Operational Excellence Program, achieved 190% of its project contracting target, and was responsible for 31% of all Embrapii projects carried out through the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP). “This Unit strengthens national technological sovereignty and contributes to consolidating Brazil as a world reference in the oil and gas sector,” highlighted the Embrapii management.

During the ceremony, Embrapii president, Alvaro Prata, emphasized the collective nature of the recognition. “All of those who met the technological demands of the industry, based on their competence, are being rewarded in this ceremony. In the figure of a few, we are rewarding many. This is an award that raises the bar for everything we do. Embrapii is at the service of the industry and serves the industry,” he stated.
Professor Angela Uller, general coordinator of the Embrapii-Coppe Unit for Oil, Gas, Offshore Renewable Energies and Biofuels, attributes the achievement to collaborative work and commitment to scientific and technological excellence, highlighting the dedication of the teams, the integration between laboratories and the proximity to the productive sector, factors that have allowed the unit to respond quickly and effectively to the demands of the industry.
Embrapii-Coppe: 10 years of excellence

The trajectory of excellence of the Embrapii-Coppe Unit, which has been operating since 2015, had already been recognized in July of this year, during a meeting held at Coppe with Embrapii leaders. The visit celebrated the results achieved by the unit, which has already mediated 65 projects in partnership with companies. Due to this performance, Embrapii-Coppe was promoted to the institution’s highest level, becoming a Diamond Unit, a classification that recognizes excellence in the management and execution of innovation projects.
On that occasion, Coppe director, Professor Suzana Kahn, highlighted the importance of interdisciplinarity and integrated work among the institution’s laboratories, emphasizing that the Embrapii-Coppe Unit has been expanding its scope of action to new areas of knowledge. The Deputy Director for Technology and Innovation, Professor Thiago Aragão, recalled that Coppe has maintained a strong interaction with industry since its inception and that Embrapii-Coppe occupies a strategic position in the institution’s innovation ecosystem, contributing to projects in different areas, beyond the energy sector.
