From research to innovation: Coppe offers over 450 opportunities for master’s and doctoral degrees

Coppe/UFRJ, one of the largest Engineering teaching and research centers in Latin America, is accepting applications for its graduate programs. There are over 300 openings for master’s degrees and over 150 for doctorates. Nine programs have open positions: Biomedical Engineering; Civil Engineering; Metallurgical and Materials Engineering; Chemical Engineering (last days); Nanotechnology Engineering; Industrial Engineering; Transport Engineering; Energy Planning Program.

The Biomedical Engineering Program offers 40 master’s degree positions, 20 for students with undergraduate degrees in Exact Sciences and 20 for candidates with degrees in Biological and Health Sciences. Applications are open until November 14th (11/14).
The Civil Engineering Program offers 120 master’s degree positions (for the entire year, the remaining vacancies from the first period are offered again in the third period) and 15 for doctoral positions in six areas: Structures and Materials; Geotechnics; Computational Mechanics; Oil and Gas; Water Resources and Environment; and Computer Systems. Applications are open until October 31st (10/31).
The Electrical Engineering Program offers 80 master’s degree positions in five areas: Control, Automation and Robotics (11 positions); Electronics (16); Power Electronics (9); Computational Intelligence (14); Electrical Power Systems (30). For doctorates, there are 26 positions: Control, Automation and Robotics (3 vacancies); Electronics (7); Power Electronics (5); Computational Intelligence (5); Electrical Power Systems (6). Applications are open until November 14th (11/14).
The Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Program offers 63 master’s degree positions and 20 doctoral positions, in nine areas of concentration: Biomaterials; Advanced Ceramics; Corrosion; Non-Destructive Testing and Welding; Composite Polymeric Materials; Extractive Metallurgy; Physical Metallurgy and Mechanical Properties; Thermomechanical Processing and Microstructural Engineering; Surfaces and Thin Films. Applications are open until December 10th (12/10).
The Industrial Engineering Program offers, in the academic year of 2026, 34 positions for master’s degrees and 30 for doctorates, distributed in two areas of concentration: Safety, Innovation, Work and Entrepreneurship; and Decision Engineering and Management. Applications are open until October 31st (10/31).
The Chemical Engineering Program offers 20 positions, in broad competition, for doctorates, in addition to the vacancies available for affirmative actions (distribution varies throughout the year). Applications are open until October 24th (10/31).
The Nanotechnology Engineering Program has 15 open positions for master’s degrees and 15 for doctorates, in the following lines of research: Nanomaterials engineering; Nanosensors, nanodevices and nanosystems Engineering. Applications are open until November 14th (11/14).
The Transport Engineering Program offers 20 master’s degree positions and 20 doctoral positions divided, equally, in four areas of concentration: Cities and Mobility; Traffic Management and Operation. Applications are open until November 28th (11/28).
The Energy Planning Program offers, in turn, offers 16 positions for master’s degrees and 12 for doctorates, in two areas of concentration: Energy Planning and Environmental Planning. Applications are open until November 7th (11/7).
