Coppe welcomed, at the end of July, two visits from representatives of the Chinese government and research institutions. It was the beginning of very promising partnerships on themes such as cybersecurity, green chemistry, artificial intelligence and a training program aimed at talented youth which will be promoted and carried out at Coppe.
On July 24th, Coppe’s board of directors welcomed the delegation of the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC). Participating in the meeting were deputy executive secretary for Institutional Security Bureau (GSI), and professors Miguel Campista and Pedro Cruz from the Electrical Engineering Program that also act in the Teleinformatics and Automation Group (GTA).
At the meeting, it was discussed about the privacy and the usefulness of data for AI models, addressing data protection regulation, people’s awareness of the establishment and also the technical cooperation partnerships and the development of joint projects.
According to Rejane Rocha, researcher from the Chemical Engineering Program and executive secretary of the China-Brazil center, “the Brazilian government still does not have a defined policy aimed at data security, but a first document was sent to Congress. The Chinese are visiting some of their partners with whom they have more mature relationships, as is our case, and came to find out what Brazil is proposing in terms of cybersecurity policy, so we can then align common interest research projects”.
It was also debated in parallel about the possibility of an official program, along the lines of the chinese Young Talent Training Program, which lasts around 20 days, attracting foreign students’ participation. “The idea is to create this Training Program here at Coppe, but it is something for next year.”
On the 29th, it was Coppe’s turn to welcome the Science and Technology Department of the Guangdong province committee. The goal of the meeting is to explore the synergy between Coppe and Guangdong province in initiatives that involve green chemistry, biotechnology, artificial intelligence (AI), agriculture, technology and innovation.
Guangdong is a province in southeast China, near Macau and Hong Kong, that has attracted many investments in science and technology, especially in the cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan, which house Coppe’s partner institutions.
