Submission to the International Competition “Smart City 2030: Sustainable Urban Development Management in BRICS Countries” is open until October 20th.
The competition is organized by Coppe, which counts UFRJ as one of the four responsible institutions. In addition to UFRJ, the other organizing institutions include Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (SPbPU) from Russia, Tsinghua University from China and Lovely Professional University from India.
The competition aims to engage students and young researchers in developing innovative urban development projects for cities in BRICS countries by 2030. The projects should creatively address the challenges and opportunities in urban planning during a time of global uncertainty.
It will be up to Coppe to designate five specialists to evaluate the projects submitted by Brazilians. Participants must submit a research project addressing urban development problems, with stakeholder analysis, resource management, and solutions for global uncertainty. The projects must have a planning horizon of up to ten years, with a focus on specific BRICS cities. Submission categories include:
- Smart and Creative City Development: Education system improvement, labor market transformation, city branding, and tourism.
- Safe and Comfortable Urban Environment: Clean and safe city initiatives, environmental sustainability.
- Smart City Technologies and Services: Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence, electronic government, and open data.
- Energy and Transportation Infrastructure: Modernization of energy and transport systems, water supply optimization.
The final stage of the competition will take place on October 30th, with presentations. The winners and outstanding participants will receive certificates, prizes, and recognition at the International Municipal Forum BRICS+ in November 2024.
