On October 2nd, Coppe/UFRJ welcomed new students who have enrolled in its 13 academic graduate programs for the second and third terms of 2024. The event not only presented the institution’s structure and procedures, but also included a revealing survey: 63% of students chose Coppe for its reputation and curriculum value, highlighting the institution’s excellence within the academic scenario.
The highly qualified faculty, academic excellence and high end infrastructure were other factors that attracted these students. The survey also highlighted the students’ interest in working with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and pursuing academic careers (44%), while 36% aim towards the job market. However, many students still do not consider the potential of entrepreneurship, an area where Coppe stands out, which was addressed by Director for Technology and Innovation, Professor Marysilvia Costa.
The professor presented Coppe’s initiatives aimed towards the development of entrepreneurship among its students. She highlighted that technology created at the institution must be taken to the market, stressing that pre existing companies are always searching for innovation — sometimes, even in existing technologies, but with new applications. An example cited was the transition of technologies developed for the oil industry and finding new uses in renewable energy sources.
Another distinguishing feature at Coppe is its curriculum flexibility which allows students to take classes from other programs. During the reception, professor Jean-David Caprace, director of Academic Affairs, emphasized the importance of this approach, which enriches the students’ education, offering opportunities in areas such as AI, Healthcare Engineering, Smart Cities and Blue Economy.
Additionally, Coppe offers complementary scholarships and the possibility of participating in industry projects, building a bridge between theory and practice. However, the professor warned about the necessity of managing time well in view of the challenges that will arise. Regarding students’ support, the Acolhe Coppe initiative was presented, led by Director for Personnel Management, Vanda Borges. She underlined the importance of a humanized relationship to face academic and professional challenges. With its combination of reputation, infrastructure, innovation and human support, Coppe/UFRJ stands out as an exceptional choice for those who seek a graduate degree that not only enhances the curriculum, but also prepares students for a promising and entrepreneurial future.
